ATX Design Jam, co-sponsored with the Visual Communication Department, is a once-a-month event for designers and anyone else in the Austin community to come together to solve a real-life problem using design thinking.
The Design Jam event is held monthly at ACC Rio Grande Campus for an evening of collaboration and impact—no cost to attend. Each session kicks off with pizza and networking, then you dive into a real challenge for a local nonprofit. The nonprofit shares their story, introduces their constituents and constraints, and presents the challenge they’re facing. Then the designers break into small facilitated groups to tackle the problem, then come back together to share solutions and gather feedback from the nonprofit.
Past Design Jam non-profit partner organizations include Open Austin, CASA of Williamson County, and the Texas Museum of Popular Culture.
This month’s Design Jam is partnering with Love-A-Bull, a non-profit pit bull rescue and advocacy group based in Austin. Love-A-Bull exists to educate and advocate for the pit bull breeds. The organization is a foster-based rescue program with dogs available for adoption listed on their website.
Design Jam’s goal will be to help discover solutions for housing injustice for pit bull owners. This can be through designing outreach campaigns or finding new ways to raise awareness to breed restrictions for renters.
Yes, there will be puppies onsite!
Join Design Jam to put your skills to work for organizations that matter. The event is free and open to the public. Food will be provided. Learn more information about Design Jam and sign up at the Design Jam Meetup.
The month’s Design Jam is scheduled for October 21.
